Lines composed whilst gallery sitting
Hanging around is fun at the gallery
Art is featured from abstract to flowery
Portraits, still lifes and paintings of barns
Sculptures and landscapes if you give a darn
On days and nights when no one comes in
Antics and follies commence and begin
From the barns the cows and roosters emerge
Painted waves crash that seemed just on the verge
Staid Puritan portraits follow us with their eyes
Tempest tossed sailboats get to capsize
Bronze ballerinas dance down from their pillars
To form a quadrille with oiled tinkers and millers
But when the doorbell tinkles we rush back to our places
To polish and preen to show our best faces
Someone might purchase and hang us in their home
A fresh venue for us to frolic and roam
A grand new space to explore and creep
When the new master is unaware or asleep
